Exploring Seattle: A Weekend Travel Guide

Nestled in the heart of the Pacific Northwest, amidst the serene waters, majestic mountains, and lush evergreen forests, lies Seattle, the crown jewel of Washington State. This vibrant city is not only the home to tech giants like Microsoft and Amazon but also boasts the futuristic Space Needle, a legacy of the 1962 World’s Fair and its most iconic landmark. I embarked on a weekend adventure from Los Angeles with my dear friend Samuel to discover the unique offerings of this city.

Outside Pike Place Market
Out & About:

Experience the birthplace of Starbucks at Pike Place: The original Starbucks store, established in 1971, is a must-visit for coffee enthusiasts. However, be prepared for a bit of a wait; we arrived at 7 am and still had to queue for over an hour to savor our morning brew. This iconic location is a testament to the humble beginnings of the now-global coffee empire.

Discover the wonders of Pike Place Market: This vibrant public market, opened in 1907, is one of the oldest continuously operated public farmers' markets in the United States. It's a bustling hub of fresh produce, artisanal goods, and unique local businesses, offering a true taste of Seattle's diverse culture.

Immerse yourself in the Seattle Chinatown-International District: This vibrant neighborhood is a melting pot of Asian cultures, offering a rich tapestry of history, cuisine, and traditions. Walking its streets, you'll find an array of authentic eateries, shops, and cultural landmarks.

Ascend the Space Needle for breathtaking views: This iconic Seattle landmark, built for the 1962 World's Fair, offers panoramic views of downtown Seattle, Mount Rainier, Puget Sound, and the Cascades and Olympic mountain ranges. It's an unforgettable way to take in the city's stunning natural and urban landscapes.

Dive into the Museum of Pop Culture: This innovative museum, founded by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen in 2000, is a haven for music, science fiction, and pop culture enthusiasts. Its interactive exhibits and impressive collections offer a unique insight into the creative process and the cultural impact of popular art forms.

Witness the spectacle at the Pike Place Fish Market: This legendary fish market is known for its fishmongers who toss fish to each other, a tradition that started in the 1980s to save time and has since become a beloved spectacle. It's a lively, entertaining experience that encapsulates the spirit of Pike Place.

Wander through the Gum Wall alley in Pike Place Market: This quirky, offbeat attraction is an alleyway completely covered in used chewing gum. It started in the 1990s when people waiting for a local theater began sticking gum to the wall. Despite attempts to clean it, the tradition has persisted, turning the wall into a colorful, albeit slightly gross, work of art.
