Breckenridge Winter Weekend: Skiing, Cozy Cabins & Mountain Adventures

A winter escape to Breckenridge filled with skiing, cozy cabins, and après ski adventures.

Breckenridge Winter Weekend: Skiing, Cozy Cabins & Mountain Adventures

Nestled at the foot of Colorado's majestic Tenmile Range, Breckenridge is a winter wonderland that beckons adventurers with its world-class skiing, charming historic streets, and cozy alpine accommodations. After flying into Denver, we hit the road for an exhilarating one-and-a-half-hour drive to this high-altitude gem, sitting at a cool 9,600 feet. Here's how we spent our winter weekend in Breckenridge, CO.

Mountain View from Our Cabin
Day One: Settling In

Gear Up: First stop was to grab our rental skis. Breckenridge Sports on Main Street is a solid choice for all your equipment needs.

Stock Up: Next, we hit City Market for provisions - think comfort food for the cabin, some local brews, and maybe a treat or two for those late-night cravings.

Relax: Back at our Airbnb, we soaked in the hot tub under a blanket of stars, the perfect way to acclimate to the altitude.

Dine In: We whipped up a simple but hearty dinner - imagine steaming bowls of chili with cornbread, all while watching the snow gently fall outside.

Caught Exploring
Day Two: Hitting the Slopes & Après Ski Fun

Ski the Slopes: We hit the slopes at Breckenridge Ski Resort, carving through fresh powder. Starting at Peak 8, we found runs for every skill level. The views from the summit were stunning, offering a panoramic look at the town below.

Après ski at T-Bar: After a day on the slopes, we warmed up at T-Bar, where the atmosphere is as inviting as the mulled wine. It's the quintessential après-ski experience. Be sure to check the day the parties are happening as it is not an everyday thing.

Dinner at Cabin Juice: Cabin Juice is as cozy as it gets, with comfort food that hits the spot after a day in the cold. Their homemade mac and cheese? Divine.

Sing karaoke at The Motherloaded Tavern: To end the night, we belted out some classics at the tavern.

Group Shot on the Mountain
Day Three: Exploring Main Street

Breckenridge’s Main Street is way bigger than I expected! Lined with charming shops, cozy cafés, and vibrant bars, it has something for everyone. I could have easily spent the entire day here, soaking in the mountain-town charm, but here are a few of my favorite spots:

The Crown Coffee: Kick off your morning with their local roast and a pastry at this locally owned and operated spot.

Breckinridge Brewery: A must-visit for beer enthusiasts looking for a taste of Colorado's brewing culture.

Breckenridge Tap House:  For those who appreciate a good selection of craft beers and a laid-back vibe, this place boasts 37 beers on tap, exotic tequilas, vintage whiskeys and worldly wines.

Edwin’s: Experience a dinner menu that honors both local ingredients and seasonal flavors, featuring dishes like Colorado lamb and local trout.

Walking Down Maine Street
Day Four: Saying Goodbye

Breakfast at Daylight Donuts: Before we left, we made a point to stop for their homemade donuts and their take on the McMuffin.

Wondering Around
Accommodations

Our Airbnb was the epitome of mountain retreat - think rustic charm with modern comforts. Picture this: an indoor and outdoor fireplace, panoramic mountain views, and that quintessential hot tub where you can watch the snow fall all around you.

However, if I were to plan another trip, I'd splurge on a place closer to Main Street to cut down on Uber rides, making our mountain town experience even more seamless.

Our Mountain Escape

Breckenridge isn't just about skiing; it's about the whole experience - the history, the community, the food, and the unbeatable mountain air. Whether you're flying down the slopes or simply meandering through town, it's the perfect winter weekend escape.
