Discover Personalized Travel with Apple Maps

Whether you’re strolling through familiar streets or exploring a new city, Apple Maps makes it easy to turn your favorite spots into shareable guides. It’s the perfect tool for showcasing your city to friends, revisiting memories from past adventures, or mapping out your next journey!

As a frequent traveler, I'm constantly using maps on my iPhone to locate new coffee shops, restaurants, or bars in whatever city I'm visiting. It’s not only useful for finding new places but also for creating custom guides that capture my favorite spots in each city. In New York, for instance, I’ve created a guide of all my must-visit places. When friends ask for recommendations, I can simply share the entire list with them, making it effortless for them to explore the city.

Why Create a Guide?

Unlike traditional notes apps, Apple Maps lets you visualize all your saved places on a map, giving you a better sense of where everything is located. Apple Maps organizes spots in "Guides," a feature that bookmarks locations in one convenient list that you can refer to anytime.

How to Create a Guide in Apple Maps

1. Open Apple Maps: Open the Maps app on your iPhone
2. Access Guides: Below "Library," tap the "+" icon, then select "Guides"
3. Add a Guide: Tap the "+" icon again to create a new guide
4. Name and Customize: Enter a name for your guide and, if you’d like, add an image from your photo library to personalize it
5. Save Your Guide: Tap "Create" to finalize your guide

Adding Locations to Your Guide

1. Search for a Location: Open the Maps app and find a location you want to save
2. Add to Guide: In the location’s place card, tap the "Add to Guides" button
3. Choose a Guide: Select one of your existing guides or create a new one. Add a name for the location if needed, and tap "Save"

This feature is ideal for planning trips, keeping track of places you’d like to visit, or creating a go-to list of your favorites in a particular area.

Sharing Your Guide with Friends

Planning a trip with friends? You can share your guide with them, so they can have access to all the best spots, too.

1. Open the Guide: Go to the Maps app, tap "Guides," then select the guide you want to share
2. Share the Guide: Tap the share icon at the bottom of the guide card, select "Share Guide," and choose your preferred sharing method

Note: Once shared, guides don’t update automatically, so if you add new places later, you’ll need to share the updated guide again.
